History

Global Preparatory Academy of Arts & Sciences (GPA) is a new primary school offering a stimulating American-based curriculum and supportive environment to ensure our students experience success. GPA is a modern eleven classroom facility educating students from Nursery level to US Grade 5 in the Greater Accra region. As a college preparatory school, GPA will introduce U.S. Common Core standards to Ghana with an integrated STEAM Curriculum (S.T.E.A.M. = Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math).

    • The new Common Core standards require students to demonstrate a deeper understanding of concepts, especially in Math, versus rote memorization. While the old standards and methods are often criticized for an excessive reliance on memorizing certain facts or procedures, the new standards routinely call for students to solve problems that require a strong grasp of mathematical concepts and to explain their reasoning. Thus, allowing students to improve their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Common Core brings higher-order thinking skills to students in primary school classrooms in an effort to help them excel in secondary and be well-prepared for tertiary institution achievement.
    • STEAM education is driven by problem-solving and discovery through individual exploration and classroom collaboration, where students actively engage in a situation to find its solution.

We look forward to working with both our students and parents as we set forth on this learning journey!
